The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation annually awards its $10,000 Initiative Scholarship to 86 graduating public high school students throughout Wisconsin.  This is in addition to the Excellence Scholarship and is offered to a limited number of high schools each year.  For more information about the Excellence Scholarship, click on the Student Excellence tab above.

Approximately 86 different Wisconsin public high schools are chosen for an Initiative Scholarship annually, based on a seven-year rotation cycle. Recipient schools for 2023 Initiative Scholarships will be posted in December 2022. Each designated school chooses its scholarship recipient. 

The intent of the Initiative Scholarship is to recognize students who are putting forth the extraordinary effort to do their best in the classroom and have overcome significant obstacles or adversity, but whose class rank is likely to make them ineligible for academic scholarships.  Only students who attend Wisconsin schools designated to receive an Initiative Scholarship may apply if they meet the scholarship criteria.
