Application and Selection Process
The application window opens annually in August and closes on the November submission deadline. Students must have submitted their completed applications no later than Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at 5:00:00 p.m. central time.

Regional panels will review the submitted applications, and submit finalists to a statewide selection committee on or before Tuesday, January 10, 2023. 

The statewide selection committee will consist of representatives from the cooperative educational service agencies, Wisconsin Homeschooling Parents Association, Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, Herb Kohl Educational Foundation, private school representatives, education-related associations, and civic leaders. The committee will score applications in late January or early February 2023. Award recipients will be contacted by the Herb Kohl Foundation no later than March 2023.

Use of Scholarship Grant
A Kohl Excellence Scholarship may be used to directly reimburse tuition, room and board, books, technology, and fees for post-secondary education.  In August 2023, the Kohl Foundation will send scholarship grants directly to the postsecondary institutions in which scholarship recipients have enrolled.
